History of the WBBL
Cricket Australia launched the Women Big Bash League in 2015-16, inspired by the success of the Men's Big Bash League. With eight city-based franchises, the WBBL was all set to take women's T20 cricket to another level. Sydney Thunder won the title in the inaugural season.
Since then, the league has grown exponentially, signing top international players and becoming one of the most-watched leagues in women's T20 cricket worldwide.
WBBL 2024 Tournament Format
The Women Big Bash League 2024 will feature eight teams playing 43 matches in a round-robin format. Each team will play 10 matches in the league stage, with each club playing three others twice. The top four teams qualify for the knockout stage to the semi-finals, with the winners progressing to the final. The tournament concludes with the final, where the champion is crowned.

WBBL Groups
For the 2024 WBBL season, Cricket Australia has done away with group divisions, opting for a streamlined structure. Each team will play 10 regular-season matches instead of 14, facing three opponents twice. This new format aims to intensify competition and align the WBBL with the men's BBL schedule starting 15 Dec '24.
