The Hundred Men’s Cricket Competition 2024

The Hundreds Men’s Competition takes forward the trend of a short format of exciting cricket. This is a 100-ball professional franchise tournament held in England and Wales. This 100-ball cricket tournament is conducted for both men and women. The format is popular, and over 5,00,000 tickets were sold for the first edition. It attracted even those who do not traditionally watch cricket, which was one of the key objectives when it was conceived. Like in the Indian Premier League (IPL), players worldwide participate in this tournament, as every squad has three players from outside the host country. Cricket lovers will be delighted to watch this new format as marketing catches up for the next edition.

The fourth season of The Hundred will feature eight men's teams from major cities in England and Wales.

The Hundred Cricket is a new format that has been encouraged by England’s Test captain Joe Root. After the success of the T20 format, the first edition of The Hundred Men's Competition in 2021 has shown tremendous promise of popularity in the first edition. The Hundred Men’s Competition is a limited-overs cricket tournament where each side plays up to 100 balls. A match lasts for about two-and-a-half hours. Eight Cricket teams compete with each other in 34 matches in the 2024 tournament. The Hundred games will be shown live on both Sky Sports and the BBC.

This format was conceived in 2016. Sanjay Patel, the Chief Commercial Officer at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), presented the idea of a 100-ball cricket tournament. The Hundred format was introduced to attract new audiences to the sport. It was launched for both men’s and women’s cricket. Despite the restrictions caused by the pandemic, the inaugural game was successfully conducted in 2021. The 2024 Hundred Men's Cricket competition will mark the fourth edition of this exciting tournament.

The 2024 Hundred Cricket rules are:

100-BALL CRICKET

• Each team has 100 balls to play.
• The team that scores the most runs wins.
• The fielding team switches ends every 10 balls.
• Bowlers can deliver five or 10 balls in a row, as the captain decides.
• Each bowler can bowl up to 20 balls in a match.

TIMEOUT

• Each team gets one 90-second timeout.
• The coach can come onto the field to discuss tactics with the players.
• With only 100 balls per side, every ball is crucial in The Hundred.

POWERPLAY

• Each team has a 25-ball powerplay.
• During the powerplay, only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle.

MATCH LENGTH

• A match in The Hundred lasts two and a half hours.

The Hundred Men’s Competition is run by the ECB.

The Southern Brave won the Hundred Men’s Competition 2021 by defeating Birmingham Phoenix by 32 runs at Lord’s and lifted the first trophy. In 2023, the Oval Invincibles Men clinched the title, defeating the Manchester Originals Men, who were also the runners-up in 2022 when the Trent Rockets Men emerged as champions.

As per the Hundred Cricket schedule, the tournament will be played in various cities in the United Kingdom.

This 100-ball cricket tournament will reveal new talent, as we never know which player may become comfortable with the format. Nevertheless, there are some players from whom high expectations are going into The Hundred Men’s Competition. The star attractions of the tournament who are being watched out for are:

Finn Allen Southern Brave. He is a young batsman from New Zealand who has made a mark in various cricket tournaments. He prefers to score most of his runs by hitting the ball to the boundary.

Tom Banton, Trent Rockets Men. He is a great player in terms of scoring rate, who really gets his bat talking when facing spinners.

Jos Buttler, Manchester Originals top English cricketer known for his powerful batting and wicket-keeping skills. He plays in all formats of the game and is especially noted for his explosive batting in limited-overs cricket. Buttler has scored many runs for England and is often praised for his aggressive play and ability to change the course of a match quickly.

As they say, cricket is an unpredictable sport. Since it is a new tournament, it can be very difficult to determine which team has a natural flair for The Hundred format. Fair to say that the Hundred Men’s cricket, like T20, rewards raw talent and aggressive ones more. Thus, a logical way to predict an outcome will be to watch the team that is aggressive, has some game-changing players and is in good form. The Oval Invincible won The Hundred Men’s Competition 2023 and the team is expected to do well in 2024 as well. London Spirit have lost their coach, Shane Warne, but may perform well as they are well trained. Manchester Originals Men were the runners-up last time and are expected to do well this time as well.

The teams will compete for the title between 23 July and 18 August 2024.
