T20 World Cup Bangladesh

The biggest cricketing event of the year is all set to begin. The ninth edition of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup starts on 02 June, 2024. This year, the biggest event of the game's shortest format will be co-hosted by two countries - the West Indies and the United States of America. Every team is trying to find the right combination, who can do wonders in WI & USA field conditions. Bangladesh have added 15 such ‘Bengal Tigers’ who can do well in the tournament and help the team win maximum matches to reach the finals.

Historically, Bangladesh has not been very successful in the T20 World Cup. Sometimes, they had success in bits and pieces. Till now, we can not call Bangladesh a powerhouse of T20 cricket, but the team has achieved impressive scores in T20I matches, with their highest being 215/5 against Sri Lanka and 211/4 against West Indies in 2018..

They always displayed tough competition against teams such as Sri Lanka and West Indies but could not replicate those performances against the highest-ranking teams. They are in group D, which includes Nepal, the Netherlands, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. Nepal is the only team that holds the record for the highest-ever team score in the history of T20 cricket, as they hit 314 against Mongolia during the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, and Sri Lanka has already earned the T20I trophy once in 2014. So, they must play extraordinary cricket to beat the highest-ranking teams to reach the semi-final. Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the team in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Chandika Hathurusinghe will be the team’s head coach, and Mushtaq Ahmed will be the spin bowling coach. Additionally, assistant coach Nic Pothas, batting coach David Hemp, and fast bowling coach Andre Adams, among others, will join the squad in the Bangladesh coaching staff.

If Bangladesh wants to do well in the tournament, its fast bowling attack will be its most powerful weapon. In favourable conditions in the hosting countries, the team can do wonders.
