Asia Cup 2023 is the forthcoming international cricket tournament, all set to entertain cricket fans around the globe. The 16th edition of the tournament will kickstart with a bang on 30 August and ends on 17 September 2023.
A total of six teams will come against each other to win the Asia Cup 2023 cricket trophy, including India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

History of Asia Cup

The Asia Cup is a men’s one-day international cricket tournament where renowned teams from Asia compete against each other for the trophy.
It was established in 1983 by Asian Cricket Council, and since then, the tournament has been held in ODI and T20 formats. Originally scheduled to be conducted once every two years, it started to alternate between T20 and ODI formats every two years.
The first ever Asia Cup took place in Sharjah in 1984. India justifies its name as the “Asian Champions” for winning the most number of times, which is 7. In comparison to that, Sri Lanka has won the tournament six times. Sri Lanka has participated in 15 Asia Cup tournaments, followed by India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, who have played 14 times each.
The most recent Asia Cup was held in 2022 in the UAE, where Sri Lanka emerged victorious. They won the title by defeating Pakistan by a margin of 23 runs in a thrilling final match. Bhanuka Rajapaksa clinched the Man of the Match title with his unbeaten knock of 71 from just 45 deliveries. Meanwhile, Wanindu Hasaranga seized the spot as the second-highest wicket-taker, claiming 9 wickets across 6 matches. Not only that, he also contributed 66 runs in 5 innings, which led to him being rightfully declared the Player of the Series.
